a victim

Free Willy has been one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid and has once made me a victim of hyperreality. On November 23, 1996 I visited Newport Oregon and saw Keiko (Free Willy) in real life. It was amazing as i had only watched him on the movie. Later on that year I had a dream. E.V Lucas once said that "one of the most adventurous things left us is to go to bed. For no one can lay a hand on our dreams." That night I dreamt that Keiko was in my back yard swimming in my four by fifteen-foot pool. It was unbelievable as I first watched Keiko in the movies, then saw him at Newport and then he was in my backyard as my own pet. Furthermore, a person once said that "the best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened." Having a whale in my pool seemed very real, until the moment I woke up. Reality kicked in once I realized that I was lying in my bed and that no whale could possibly fit in that pool. Hyperreality can take over your mind, not knowing if something is real or just a dream, well it did for me.

hyperreality

One of many postmodern philosophies, hyperreality has affected Americans relationships and love. According to Baudrillard a famous theorist of hyperreality says "it is no longer possible, in a media-saturated world, to distinguish between what is real and what is not." Hyperreality is a mix up of what is actually real and what is fictional. An example of this is dealt with in pornography, as a person lives in a non-existent world, having sex become an unreal thing. Furthermore, in Baudrillard's dystopia he stated that "simulations have the power to displace the real." An illustration of this can be shown in relationships through the internet. Many American's search online for love, but may be deceived and fall in love with a picture saying they are a particular man or woman. Our culture today has been influenced by this philosophy which makes relationships difficult to perceive which is real and unreal.

Postmodern Crisis

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. I believe that we should have knowledge about other worldviews so that we can recognize the ungodliness in this chaotic world. This verse says to to "love self-controlled, upright and godly lives." So we need to stray from the world and follow the way God tells us to, not chaotic and disordered lives.

Captain Jack Sparrow.

Jack throughout Pirates of the Caribbean, is a character that brings laughter and adventure. He is always on a mission looking for the black pearl. He is out for himself though as he is looking to gain wealth for himself. He creates a life for himself looking for his personal needs. He is postmodern in the sense that he does things to an extent of what is right for him.

Ship

Rocencrantz and Guildenstern have no meaning for living as they do absolutely nothing throughout the entire movie. They randomly show up to different places, causing chaos rather than accomplishing. For example, when they showed up to Denmark, they were filmed wrestiling with curtains. They fulfill nothing. The movie ends on a ship possibly becuase ships go out into the water and water is all that is seen from each angle of the ship. Just water. Rocencrantz and Guildenstern are seen as nobodies. Just nobodies. Nothing else. Without them living, lives would not be effected, just as if the boat did not exist, the water is not effected.

Ants

This evening i decided to step out of my little comfort zone and help someone who is in need. The things i put together into a box are as follows...a Bible, a tract, shirt, gloves, toothbrush, socks, water, fruit cups, top ramon, chili, chips, cookies, and hand sanitizer. I made my way down town accompanied by parents to search for a "bum." Well this search took a while considering it was raining and was already dark outside. There are some crazy people down town, and some bum even flipped my mom off as we were driving. I thought about going to him to give him the stuff but i didn't know how he would act. Finally, i found a man and a women standing against a building. We pulled to the side of the street and the man yelled, "You have to pay to park there." Didn't acknowledge that and i said, "Are you guys in need of anything?" The man replied, "Yea..I'm in need of a wife." Well in the mean time, i showed the box of goodies to the woman and she thought i was trying to sell it to her. She said, "I ain't got no money." I answered her "no it's free." She was amazed and took the box from my hands. She also said she needed a dollar for the bus so i gave her $5.00. Who knows if she is really going to use it on a bus.

I am glad that i chose to do this because i love helping others and i hope that through this experience, their lives may be changed as they may read through the tract and accept Christ into their lives.

Why are there Game like Questions?

Game like questions could be in this movie, which is about existence in order for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to figure out why they are actually in existence. They do nothing in this movie of true importance so far. They ride horses, flip coins, and are clumsy. Maybe they are questioning what their real purpose in life really is. The game they played doesn't seem like they could find out anything about each other. They can't answer any questions but just keep asking them. Also in the movie, they are called by both names, making it not only confusing for them to know who they are, but for the audience.

Guildenstern & Rosencrantz

In the play when Horatio says, "Guildenstern and Rosencrantz go to 't" i think he speaking to Hamlet about the two men in an approving/agreeing way. Horatio had no relations with these men and knows that they have betrayed Hamlet, allowing him to try and be killed in England.Horatio is Hamlets best friend and he see's no need for those two men, who have not helped, but have caused destruction. They betrayed Hamlet as they were both his school friends and now they are spies of the king, trying to get their so called friend killed. They do not care about Hamlet and how he feels, but they both just look out for their own interests.The two men didn't show true friendship so Hamlet gave them what he believed they deserved. The ultimate punishment, which was death for both Guildenstern and Rosencrantz.
